This from kids who can't put together a complete and correct sentence about what they did over their holiday. I don't get it.

similarly, my students needed two week preparation to speech for two minutes about what they did on vacation, yet a lot of them knew these halloween vocab words.
Don't tell the people who gave me this scholarship, but I had to look up "corsair"
I wonder if some of this doesn't come from the popular "Pirates of the Caribbean."
